My Take on New Years Resolutions

New YEAR, New ME Right? Wrong!
As you step into this year don't attempt to become a new person because let’s be real, it’s not going to happen. However, this doesn’t mean you should spend the year repeating unhealthy habits either.
You can’t magically become a new person overnight. Like I really, really wish it worked that way but if you could just wake up on New Year’s Day and become all the things you put on a list it wouldn’t even be special.
It takes hard work to unlock new levels in life. You need to be motivated by more than just one day of the year. The fact that it’s a new year should inspire you, but by no means should it be your driving force. I think that’s why I’m unsuccessful with resolutions EVERY SINGLE year. But I don’t know why I even let myself be tricked into thinking I would get instant results anyway.
At the beginning of every year, I say I’m going to work out and eat healthier. I also say I’m limiting screen time and focusing on what’s important. And every year, I LIE! I just wrote down all these things I wanted and when I couldn’t see the results a week into the new year I kind of just gave up.
This is mainly due to the false promise of new beginnings. When I fail I just tell myself, “well I’ll just start over next year” and I’m totally failing to realize that’s why I’m failing. It has become clear to me this year. It doesn’t take a new calendar to start accomplishing things that are important.
It doesn’t take a new year to better yourself, it takes a determined mindset. Do you really want better for yourself? Are you truly willing to do whatever it takes? If your answer is yes then what are you waiting for?
Every day you must choose to be the best possible version of yourself. Not because it’s the start of a new year, but because it’s the start of a new you.
Become the person your childhood self looked up to.
Become the person they always doubted.
I promise once you really believe and start your journey it won’t matter what day of the year it is. What will matter is who you are, what you’re doing, and where you’re going!
With Love,
~Lailah
